The House of Westerlea (Paisley, Renfrewshire) and the House of Craig (Langholm, Dumfriesshire) both have Paisley Ams derivitave from a common heraldic blazon. Accordingly, it can be asserted that there are undifferenced Arms of the name to which a recognised Chief could be matriculated.

The earliest grant record were those of James Paisley of Craig in 1747 off which there ha been no matriculation. The fifth son, however, Admiral Sir Thomas Paisley Bt. was awarded an UK Baronetcy after the 'Glorious First of June'(1794) and adopted the Craig Arms with a difference, recorded in the College of Arms, London.

The Arms of Westerlea were matriculated on the 21st day of January 1946 by Major Thomas Brownlee Paisley of Westerlea, TD, MA, the third Laird of the name of the Barony of Westerlea. At that time a pedigree dating back to 1640 in Paisley was lodged and since when after extensive research, a lineage has been confirmed to 1389.

On the 4th February 1994, Sir Malcolm Sabine Pasley of Craig, 5th Baronet, recognising the House of Westerlea as the senior line surrendered any claim to Chiefship to the present Laird.

A Family Society for all of the name and blood of Paisley was established in 1988, with five branches worldwide and a membership of over 800. The Society has a Family Museum in Slamannan, Stirlingshire where the Chieftain of the Family lives.
