We, William David Hamilton Sellar, Lord Lyon King of Arms, send Greeting:
Whereas, DENIS RUSSELL TOWNER, Holder of the Degrees of Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Divinity, Minister of the Word of the Uniting Church in Australia (retired), residing at---------------------------------------Bateau Bay, New South Wales, having by Petition unto us of date 1 January 2006 Shewn; THAT he, the Petitioner, born Armidale, New South Wales 26 November 1935 [who married Wagga Wagga, New South Wales 21 October 1972 Anne Helen, daughter of Frederick David Turner, and has issue by her an elder son and heir apparent Geoffrey Russell James Towner (born Wagga Wagga aforesaid 5 January 1974) and a second son Paul Anthony David Towner (born Wagga Wagga 29 May 1976)] is the eldest son of the late Laurence Russell Towner, Schoolteacher, and his wife (married Armidale aforesaid 28 December 1933) Olive Lucy, daughter of William Bell; THAT the Petitioner’s said father (born Grafton, New South Wales 19 November 1909) was the eldest son of Hubert Laurence Towner, Schoolteacher, and his wife (married Rous Mill, New South Wales 23 December 1908) Fanny Selina, daughter of William Robinson; THAT the Petitioner’s said grandfather (born Rous Mill aforesaid 26 February 1884) was the third son of George Towner, pioneer settler of Rous, and his wife (married Alstonville, New South Wales 24 September 1878) Emma, daughter of Nicholas Barlow; AND the Petitioner having prayed that there might be granted unto him such Ensigns Armorial as might be found suitable and according to the Laws of Arms KNOW YE THEREFORE that We have Devised, and Do by These Presents Assign, Ratify and Confirm unto the Petitioner and his descendants and other descendants of his great grandfather George Towner with such due and congruent differences as may hereafter be severally matriculated for them the following Ensigns Armorial as depicted upon the margin hereof, and matriculated of even date with These Presents upon the 108th page of the 87th Volume of Our Public Register of All Arms and Bearings in Scotland, videlicet:- Per Chevron debased wavy Gules and Argent, in chief a cane knife and a felling axe in saltire blades uppermost of the Second hafts Or surmounted by a cross moline of the Last and in base the stars of the Southern Cross in bend Azure, a bordure of the Second for difference – the Shield ensigned of an ecclesiastical hat with one tassel on either side Azure as appropriate for a Minister of the Word of the Uniting Church in Australia, and for his lay heirs an Helm befitting their degree with a Mantling Gules doubled Argent. and on a Wreath of the Liveries is set for Crest on a grassy mound in front of a stone wall Proper a Tau cross Sable pendant from its dexter a quaver note and from its sinister an escutcheon Or;- and in an Escrol over the same this Motto FAITH WITH INTEGRITY”; by demonstration of which Ensigns Armorial he and his successors in the same are, amongst all Nobles and in all Places of Honour, to be taken, numbered, accounted and received as Nobles in the Noblesse of Scotland: IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF We have Subscribed These Presents and the Seal of Our Office is affixed hereto at Edinburgh, this 13th day of March in the 57th Year of the Reign of Our Sovereign Lady Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and of Her Other Realms and Territories, Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith. and in the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand and eight.
