Markus Hermann Frank, MD, Baron of Barnton

Crest: Two arms embowed, vested Sable cuffed Or, the hands Proper holding aloft a vane as in the Arms.
Motto: “ORA ET LABORA” ("Pray and Work")
Granted: The Court of the Lord Lyon, 12 August 2016. Lyon Register, vol. 93, page 21

Description and significance of the arms:
The chief charge of the vane, also appearing in the crest, represents Markus Frank’s mother, Theresia Wanner’s family name “Wanner” and is the winnowing fan (lat. vannus) originally blazoned in the Wanner arms of the armiger’s maternal 10th great grandfather Philipp Wanner of Augsburg, Germany, ennobled by Letters Patent by Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand II on July 4, 1620 (Vienna, Austria). The two fleams represent the armiger’s and his wife Natasha Frank’s respective professions as medical doctors. “Per fess dancetty Gules and Argent” recalls the armiger’s ancestral origins in Franconia, Germany. The three downward peaks represent the armiger’s and his wife’s three sons, Maximilian, Alexander and Andreas.
The motto “Ora et Labora” is one guiding principle of the armiger’s personal life and also relates to the former Benedictine Imperial Abbeys of Elchingen and Ochsenhausen, Germany, of which the armiger’s 10th paternal great grandfather Bernhart Franck and the armiger’s maternal 9th great grandfather
Georg Wanner were feudal fief-holders, respectively. Additionally, this motto coincides with that of former holders of the Barony of Barnton, to whom the armiger is related through blood and marriage.
