Dr David John Bruce Durie BSc (Hons) PhD PgCert(AAS) FSAScot FCollT FIGRS FHEA OLJ

Arms: Azure, a chevron Or between two crescents in chief and a triple-towered abbey in base all Argent

Crest: a cubit arm vested Azure cuffed Argent the hand Proper holding a crescent Or

Motto: "Steadfast"

Granted: The Court of the Lord Lyon, 8th March 2011. Lyon Register, vol. 89, folio 84.

These Arms were granted to my father David Alexander Durie. They reflect the chiefly Arms of Durie (Azure, a chevron Or between three crescents Argent) originally registered in 1672 but of which there is earlier evidence.

The name of Durie started in 1261 when the lands of Durie in Scoonie, Fife, were granted to Gilbert, a younger son of the Earl of Strathearn who adopted the surname. The chiefly line descends from George Durie, last Abbot of Dunfermline, who established the line that inhabited Craigluscar until the early 20th Century. The armiger descends from his elder brother, Robert Durie of Durie, who sold the lands of Durie in 1614 to Sir Alexander Gibson who later took the judicial title Lord Durie and whose grandson again sold Durie to the Christie family, who hold them still.
