Purves - crest orientation.
Noticing the arms of Mr. Purves in the Gallery reminded me of a wee piece I recently wrote about the crest of Leigh being strangely inappropriate when it later became used with the helm of a baronet. Crests are three dimensional but sometimes even the best of artists seem to forget this fact. The original crest if actually worn would be facing to the side of the wearer - I illustrate the alternative.
