Arms in Norway are in general not granted, but assumed. Granted arms and assumed arms have co-existed in Norway for centuries and the majority of arms are assumed.

My arms are assumed on the basis of an armorial seal used by my great-grandfather's great-grandfather in my paternal line, known from a letter at the Royal (Norwegian) Society of Letters and Arts in 1776. Since the arms are only known from seals, I chose the tinctures during the process of turning an armorial seal into a coat-of-arms proper. The present arms have been in use since 1998. Right to bear the arms is given to descendants of my great-grandfather Ole Michael Sidselrud bearing the family name and to other descendants with permission from the head of the oldest agnatic branch of the family.
