Arms: Azure, a lymphad, sails furled, oars in action Or, flagged Argent with a saltire of the First, on a chief of the Second an ivy leaf Vert between a dexter hand couped grasping a dagger point upwards and a cross crosslet fitchee Gules, all within a bordure of the Last.

Crest: A demi cat rampant guardant Proper, holding in its dexter paw an ivy leaf Vert

Matriculated: The Court of the Lord Lyon, 14th October 1969. Lyon Register, volume 54, folio 21.

The arms were originally granted by Lord Lyon, Sir Thomas Innes of Learney, to the Rev. A. Gordon Macpherson, D.D in 1955, (volume 40, folio 106) and then matriculated for myself in 1969. The arms have been confirmed by the College of Arms in London in 1985.

The arms are based on those of the Chief of the Clan, Macpherson of Cluny, and contain the basic components of the Cluny arms; the Galley, the hand holding the dagger and the cross-crosslet. The galley suggests a western origin and rather supports the view that the ship device represents a "differenced" version of the 'Galley of Lorne', or more probably, was derived from the lymphad in the arms of the Lords of the Isles. The cross-crosslet simply indicates an ecclesiastical origin for the Clan (the name means "son of the Parson") and the hand & dagger signifies the part played by the Clan in overthrowing the Cummings (or Comyn), enemies of King Robert the Bruce.

The galley in the arms flies a white banner charged with a blue saltire, intended to represent the Provincial flag of Nova Scotia. The 'Ivy leaf' is the plant badge of the Clan Gordon and the red border surrounding the shield is a sign of cadency. The Motto is an answering motto to the Chief's "Touch not the cat but (without) a Glove".
